week 13

The Aquatic Uncle is a weird one to me. When reading this I was kind of imagined these people as maybe like frog like people and the uncle was like a tadpole that never evolved for what ever reason. I really didn't think much about this story until the ending. I think this is supposed to play off the whole racist uncle thing and the fact that you had us read that right after thanksgiving makes me think that was the point. That racist uncle thing is me trying to say that a holiday like thanksgiving is one where you have a family get together of sorts and then you gotta put up with that one asshole family member. That ether doesn't like you or no one likes him but you put up with him because he is family.

Anyway, I really don't understand the message this was trying to say. The guy got cuckolded by his racist uncle. Am I supposed to think that there relationship was never going to work out anyway because in the back of her head this lady had the same believes as the uncle. I don't know what to really say about this one.

week 12

So I have no idea where my response to the blood child story that we read, but to put it simply. I really loved this story to put it simply. Something about this crazy fiction other world almost horror stuff is my favorite. I think someone might of mention this in class but hell if anyone were to this story right I think it would be the black mirror folks. I just got this chilling feeling while reading this even though parts of it I did feel a bit mixed.

I just think the fact that we never see the monster or have any idea what it looks like pretty crazy. I just loved it and I try and get some friends to read but I haven't really pressed them about so I don't think they have.

week 11

Unfortunately for this week I didn't get a chance to read anything but I have seen both the original ghost in the shell and the movie you have on the thumb nail of the this weeks blog post paprika. I'll write about Ghost in the Shell the first one.

I was a bit confused why you had to show us Ghost in the Shell two rather that the original. the opening scene of the first film is so iconic to me and maybe that's because I just love it so much or maybe you we've trying to say some thing with that scene I don't quite remember anyway. I just feel like opening of major just kinda of being a badass gunning down all those thugs and so forth is so Sci Fi of the time. I just feel like opening of the first film is way more stronger than the second film.

As for Paprika it a really good film that I enjoyed. It was a bonding moment between friends that became life long and I have a lot of stong feelings for that film and the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV showand films.  Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone would be an interesting movie to add to the list if you are not already familiar with the series.

Week 5

I love Kiki's Delivery Service It's one of those movies my mom had sat me down to watch way way back when I was really younger. It was cool getting a chance to watch it in class since I haven't gotten a chance to watch it since then.
Witches are very interesting because they really show this fear of women and their sexuality and such. I was watching a documentary recently (after our class) and it was about that time during the women revolution and in the back of my head I was thinking about some of the stuff we were talking about in class.

week 4

This week I started reading American Psycho unfortunately I wasn't able to get super far in reading it but I have been enjoying from what I've been reading. I think I should pick up the audio if I plan on actually getting through it. If I'm being honest I think dark humor is maybe one of my favorite kinda of horror read. Something reading something that is dark and twisted and ending up asking myself why do I enjoy this so much

I'm a very skittish person when It comes to any sort of needles or cuts, but not so much blood. I wasn't really ever able to enjoy actual horror until my friends sat me down and sort of talked me into watching movies that I would have never think of watching on my own. I think maybe being in the safety of friends or even just being in a familiar place or room is really a big help for me to watch that kinda of stuff. I would never had thought I be into when I was younger. Ever since I've dipped my toes into more and more horror.

Now I really find myself really enjoying watching the new Evil Dead TV series is a real banger and I've been reading some of the recent hell raiser comics which are pretty good too.

Week 3

Japanese horror seem a lot more cruel than American horror movies. This week I watch the ring because for watch ever reason I thought it was on the list of horror movies to watch. Maybe I got the Grudge and The Ring confused because I when we were watching the Ring I kept calling the Grudge.

Anyway I thought The Ring was a little slow and like the last like 20 minutes were the really juice bits. Anyway maybe I'm just thinking of like slasher movies or something. Where the cast is all sort of assholes or just people that you don't really care for or something. So then when everyone is getting killed you're getting spooked because the dude is actually scary but you don't really feel that bad for the kiddos. These Japanese Horror movies just feel like they are killing just for fun and these are just very unfortunate people. I like felt like actually bad for these people that were getting murdered. Like that guy and the snow queen or witch or whatever she was. They were in like a happy marriage and had a kid but just because he told her about the event that happened she left him forever to raise the kid himself that's fucked up.

Week One

This week we read Frankenstein I've had to read Frankenstein in high school so this wasn't anything new to me but Young Frankenstein. I remember that movie because it was on of those movies my dad tried to get me to watch when me and brother were younger. I had no patience for it when we were younger and I'm pretty sure we just stopped watching it.

After watching in class I had to watch it anyway over the thanksgiving break I had to watch it with  my dad again and we both really enjoyed it. I feel bad for being a dumb kid and not enjoyin it sooner. My dad even got me to watch a different gene wilder and we ending up watching Blazing Saddles. Gene Wilder was a awesome man. I was never huge fan of the chocolate factory and it kind of sucks that the one movie he's really known for. like Carrie Fisher to I guess but I'm a little less framalar with her outside star wars book.
